A Confounding Mimicry
A Confounding Mimicry
4-channel sound for the Lincoln Park Conservatory's Fern Room, with 14 accompanying signs in English & Spanish
2016

The text on the sign, an excerpted page from the fictional travelogue reads:

Our research, having unequivocally proven the source of the mysterious calls to be the ferns themselves, invalidates a wide-spread hypothesis attributing these calls to an avian source. Fame-seeking explorers, after hearing these so-called “songs from nowhere,” invented birds like Marquez’s Gabito — even going so far as to publish (and profit from) these erroneous conclusions. These wild claims are now seen to be not science, but works of pure fantasy.
