Spill (Shelter)
Iridescent watercolor, watercolor & graphite on paper
18 x 24 in.
2012

Oil drips from the wings of these Reddish Egrets (Egretta rufescens), a species of bird native to the Gulf Coast. The metallic watercolor paint appears sparkling black, or silver and lavender, depending on the direction of the light. The oil sheen on the puddle is also shiftingly iridescent, which cannot be reproduced in documentation.
