Tell it to the Birds at EXPO CHICAGO for NRDC
Until the Moss Had Reached Our Lips (Tombstone for Extinct Birds)
Archivally preserved wind-fallen lichen on vintage porcelain bird figurine
10.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 in.
2012
The camouflage effect of the eye 'searching' for the sculpture against the lichen wallpaper is well demonstrated in this image.
This was the final sculptural work in the Tell it to the Birds exhibit, and has a special significance as a marker of mourning for the species that we have already lost. The title comes partly from the well-known Dickinson poem that begins "I died for beauty..."
