Within just a few days of planting, I was thrilled to find a young Monarch Butterfly caterpillar happily munching away on the garden's Swamp Milkweed. Monarch populations have been reduced by almost 90% in recent years due to RoundUp largely eradicating milkweed, so each milkweed plant hosting caterpillars is a crucial line against extinction.
