Whale Bells at the Tarble
Whale Bells at the Tarble
Hand-blown ombré glass, Miocene-era fossilized whale ear bones, acoustically-tuned cast rubber ear bones, hand-dyed organic cotton rope, patinated brass
2023

For this new set of sixteen Whale Bells created for Who Speaks for the Oceans? at the Tarble Arts Center, the clapper of the bells becomes an echo of the fossil, itself already and echo in stone of the ancient whale's ear bone. Cast from clear acoustically-tuned rubber, the new clappers ring the bells when the real fossil is grasped.
